  • President Reagan

This page, by RaysJeeps, is a tribute to a great President, Ronald Reagan, and a man that loved jeeps, especially the CJ-8 Scrambler “the Gipper”.

During his two terms one of his best accomplishments was to dismantle the regime of communism that Reagan once called the “Evil Empire”, with the help of Mikhail Gorbachev. It was Reagan’s intention to destroy communism and Gorbachev’s intention to save it. These two world leaders, while struggling through the last years of the Cold War, developed a friendship based on mutual respect.

The Rancho del Cielo, “ranch in the heavens,” ranch home of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, was the site of a historic visit by Mikhail and Raisa Gorbachev in 1992. By the time Gorbachev visited, the Soviet empire was no more. The two men talked about horses, home improvement, and real estate prices. Reagan drove Gorbachev around the ranch in his sky blue Scrambler , while Nancy Reagan showed her hospitality by serving homemade cookies. Reagan presented Gorbachev with a cowboy hat, and Gorbachev reciprocated by giving the Reagan’s a book of Russian proverbs. When the two leaders said goodbye, they were fully conscious of having launched their two nations and the world into a new era.

Please view the historic picture of Reagan, Gorbachev with a cowboy hat, and presumably two Secret Service agents in the sky blue Scrambler. Carefully look at the other pictures and the details of the background in each. Also there is a picture of Reagan driving a modified CJ-6 in a field and pulling a trailer.

If anyone has additional pictures of the sky blue Scrambler and would like to share them, send them to this website and we will post them for all to see.
